Your entryway is the first place your guests will have a glimpse of your home. You want this space to leave an impression of your design style as well as provide a beautiful welcoming space! These small entryway ideas will show you how to create a great update for any entryway space. By adding a few simple pieces, such as a mirror, a cabinet, and a decorative rug, your space will be transformed into a warm welcoming entrance!

Small Entryway Idea #1 – Starting the Transformation

The first step to this small foyer update was to add a fresh coat of paint! We painted the ceiling white and the walls Agreeable Gray. This step alone made such a huge impact! See the picture below for the difference in the before and after. The small tray ceiling in the foyer was chocolate brown and really darkened the space that lacked natural light. We then added a new glass shade onto the existing light base which was an inexpensive trick that provided the new look I was trying to obtain. For details on this easy lighting project, click here!

Next we added a mirror to the wall leading to the garage door. The one in the picture is a Whitewash Round Wood Mirror from Hobby Lobby. It has a slightly rustic look which I paired with a more traditional looking cabinet. Artwork or a decorative object would also be great in this space and would provide a focal point for the area.

Small Entryway Idea #2 Cabinet Selection

The cabinet we picked had clear glass and very simple knobs. I decided to spray the glass on the inside with a frosted spray paint and update the knobs with a set from Hobby Lobby. They have a great collection and many different styles to chose from in the store. I wanted a cabinet in this space because I needed a place to store a lot of items that the kids use (puzzles, dvds, books, art supplies). This gives them easy access to the items they need while also hiding them when they are put away.

Shown below are several black cabinets similar to the one I used in this foyer update:

The final step was to add a rug! I tried many different rugs and sizes before selecting this one from Target. I decided a 5×7 filled the space nicely and went with the natural shape on the room. This rug carried the blues and grays that travel throughout the house but it a subtle way, making it perfect for the space!

Small Entryway Idea #3 – Decorations

Decorative items to place on top of the cabinet:

Bonus Storage Space in the Foyer

I decided to use a cabinet in my small foyer area because I needed more places to store games, books, puzzles, and crafts for the kids. By hiding these items in a beautiful cabinet, you can still achieve the look you want without compromising on the functionality. It’s a win win for everyone!

Entryway Idea Tip: The cabinet provides easy storage space for items, but still looks great!
