If it’s time for a kitchen refresh, these 5 easy and effective kitchen update ideas can give your kitchen the fresh look it needs without the cost of an entire kitchen remodel.

Follow these 5 Tips:

1. Paint

To start your kitchen refresh, you first need to pick out your perfect paint color. Paint can make a huge difference in your kitchen space! We decided on a neutral color to brighten the space, SW Agreeable Gray. We needed a warmer gray to go along with the taupe colored subway tile backsplash that was in place and SW Agreeable Gray was perfect. It updated the kitchen with a modern color that didn’t take over the space.

2. New Cabinet Hardware

The cabinets in the home we purchased didn’t have hardware and you could tell something was missing. This simple step adds an element of décor and can be the modern update you need. We used a simple Cabinet Hardware Installation Template to drill the hole and it saved a lot of time.

3. Lighting

Updated lighting gives your kitchen a decorative element and can totally change the look of the kitchen. There are so many affordable lighting options that also can come in collections if you need to update more than one fixture. We needed to update the sink light, island light, and table light. I found this collection at Home Depot and couldn’t be happier! The frames gave an industrial look and it carried through the gray color we wanted in the kitchen.

4. Appliances

If it’s been awhile since your appliances have been updated (looking at you white oven), then it is definitely time! This addition to the kitchen will absolutely help update the space.,

5. Paint the Cabinets

It wasn’t in our budget at the time to replace all the cabinets. We had several contractors give us quotes for painting and this was our best option at the time. I am SO happy that we did! The old kitchen had cherry cabinets which were too similar to the floor color. I wanted a new fresh look, so we decided to have the cabinets painted SW Alabaster White, which is a warm white. This tied in the tones of the counter tops, backsplash and new paint color Agreeable Gray perfectly!

3 Great Bonus Kitchen Update Ideas:

  1. Remove any valences, window treatments, or shades that are dating the space. Our kitchen faces south, so we needed to have some sort of window treatment. I kept the 2 inch wood blinds but removed the country style valences. This step provided a more clean cut modern appearance.
  2. Install a new faucet. There are so many beautiful faucets that can change the look of your sink area and they are usually easy to install!
  3. Undercabinet Lighting: I always love the look of undercabinet lighting. Whether you have it installed by an electrician or you manually turn on each one, it helps give your kitchen a more high end feel.
